The Story Behind Tirupati Balaji
"Lord Vishnu, enchanted by the beauty of Tirumala, decided to make it his earthly abode — waiting for his devotees here until the end of Kali Yuga."

The Srinivasa Kalyanam Story: When Goddess Lakshmi left Vaikunta after a misunderstanding with Sage Bhrigu, Lord Vishnu came to earth as Srinivasa to search for her. He arrived at Tirumala hills and fell in love with Padmavati, daughter of the Akasa Raja. To marry her, he borrowed gold from Lord Kubera — pledging to repay it until the end of Kali Yuga. This is why devotees make offerings of gold and wealth to Balaji — to help repay this cosmic debt.

The Hair Offering Tradition: Devotees offer their hair (tonsure/mundanam) as an act of humility and surrender. Tirumala receives over 700 kg of hair per day — the most in any temple in the world!

Annual Brahmotsavam: The 9-day festival where the deity is taken in procession on different vahanas (vehicles) including Garuda. Over 5 lakh devotees attend during Brahmotsavam each year.
